Who wouldn’t want to live a fulfilled and happy life? Positive psychology is the scientific discipline that researches and designs conditions for such a life. Not everyone experiences happiness and well-being in the same way. The sources and prerequisites for a contented and prosperous life are many and varied, and each person must recognize and experience them individually. Past experiences, living conditions, and personal and shared future prospects play an essential role.
In this course, students gain a deeper understanding of the various psychological phenomena that lead to greater life satisfaction, well-being, happiness, and fulfillment. Scientific findings about the diverse facets of a successful life are conveyed. Students also identify and reflect on the essential building blocks to help them flourish personally. Furthermore, participants recognize the importance of positive future perspectives and learn strategies for developing a hopeful attitude.

Based on their positive experiences and personal strengths, the participants in the Hope Intervention Programme develop scenarios of a desirable personal and social future. On the basis of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and their own abilities and interests, the participants define specific projects that contribute to the common good and actively implement them. Through personal engagement for a meaningful social cause, the individual and social well-being of the participants should be increased. In this way, positive psychological principles for a fulfilled life and socially relevant activities for shaping a world worth living in (ecologically and socially) are integrated.

In the face of increasing pessimism about the future, creative forms of future-oriented action must be found. The current experiences of a crisis-ridden world have fundamentally shaken many people’s trust in a better future. This triggers negative feelings of worry and helplessness and has a massive impact on mental health and creative power, especially among young people. In this context, is there still reason for hope, and if so, what keeps our confidence and creativity alive? How we look at the future, whether with optimism, fear, or indifference, will determine how we feel, think, and act in the here and now. We cannot change the past but are interested in shaping a sound and sustainable future. We do not know what this future will look like, so new visions of the future must be created and realized together. This course will examine the (social) psychological foundations of future-oriented thinking and action. The causes of fears and concerns about the future and hope and confidence will be explored in depth based on psychological mechanisms. Positive psychology, the psychology of future thinking, and social science futurology provide the conceptual and methodological framework. In a concrete hope project, participants put what they have learned into practice in collaboration with an external organization.

Executive Modul – Advanced Management Program

Course: Insights from Swiss Futures Studies
What future scenarios are conceivable, and how do attitudes shape how we deal with uncertainty?
How can we shape the future together? How can people in companies get excited about and committed to a desirable future? In today’s world, many people wonder what the future will hold for the world. How we as leaders and entrepreneurs look into the future, whether with hope, fear, or indifference, will determine how we think and act in the here and now. Good role models inspire employees to believe in a better future and to trust in themselves and others.
In an increasingly opaque and unpredictable world, this module invites you to identify relevant megatrends and future scenarios in the context of corporate management. Instead of being at the mercy of megatrends that sometimes seem threatening, we want to proactively, positively, and courageously take on such trends and help shape relevant developments. Together, we want to identify opportunities to adopt an appropriate attitude and develop concrete strategies.

Course: “Positive future for children and young people – giving young people hope and promoting engagement for a better future.”

The fundamental task of education and upbringing is to prepare young people for the future and enable them to actively shape the future in which they want to live responsibly and actively.
This module supports educators and other guides of children and young people in doing just that. How can we provide the tools to shape a hopeful, prosperous life and a shared future in our rapidly changing world?
